LifestyleMDSRQ was created by me, Frederick R. Yturralde, MD, FACC, FSCAI. I studied Biology and music at UCSD, heath care finance at SDSU, in San Diego, CA, and medicine at Tufts U. School of Medicine in Boston, MA. I am a Fellow of the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine, Fellow of the International Society for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention, Member of American Society for Preventive Cardiology, American College of Lifestyle Medicine, Fellow in the American College of Cardiology and Fellow of the Society of Cardiac Angiography and Intervention.
I have extensive training and experience as well as board certification in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Medicine and Interventional Cardiology. I have spent the last 15 yrs on the "front line" of care for ischemic heart disease, the #1 killer in the developed world. I have had the responsibility of stopping a heart attack in its tracks with placement of small metal tubes, called stents, into the culprit coronary artery. I am an expert in utilizing technology to assess the hemodynamic flow rates through fluid models of blood flow, Ultrasonographic imaging of the heart, arterial and venous system with a focus on the physiology of normal and pathologic mechanisms, so that I can better develop strategies to improve blood flow throughout the body during your "healthy times" and during disease. I utilize the most technologically advanced tools, i.e. Optical Coherence Tomography or Intravascular ultrasound, in order to create 3-D image representations of the arterial system in order to tailor treatment strategies.
My extensive personal research in Epicardial fat and metabolism, has led me to the conclusion that in order to live a better and longer life, once has to maximize and maintain the balance of blood flow (simple concept: efficiently deliver Oxygen, and remove byproducts of metabolism) And tackling insulin resistance. So, after all these years of study and practice, I adamantly believe that one has to be an expert in disease in order to fully understand what health actually means to an individual.
I have been an avid athlete my entire life. I participated in Triathlons while I was a resident and fellow in training, and continue as an avid surfer, windsurfer and SlingWing foil boarder. Sleep, Exercise, Nutrition, Sleep management form the 4 pillars of my SENS program. I have developed and followed my program, which has allowed me to maintain a very active lifestyle with vitality and at minimal injury; and it is now my quest to introduce my physician-led strategies to offer a more natural approach to health, optimize biologic age and lifestyle balance and improved metabolic health. This passion has allowed me the opportunity to give several lectures, to businesses, hospitals and Universities, on how to achieve complete health and wellness.
